How To Change A Door Lock
- Start by removing the two screws that mount the deadlock to the door. Remove the thumb, and remove the dead bolt cylinder from the front of the door
- Remove the two screws holding the deadbolt into the jamb side of the door, after removal the bolt will become loose, remove that as well.
- There will be a “set” screw that holds the knob onto the lockset, simply remove the knob. There will be two more screws fastening the interior of the lockset to the door, remove those. For “thumb-activated” you’ll want to remove the screw holding the bottom of the exterior door knob set in place and remove the door knob.
- Remove 2 screws holding the latch into the jamb side of the door, and remove the latch from the door.
- Slide new deadbolt through the hole, on the jamb side of the door, ensure you leave it loose enough this is going to help with later steps.
- Push the deadbolt cylinder through the top hole on the exterior of the door, you’ll then slide the interior piece over the shaft on the inside of the door. Insert 2 screws into the jamb side of the deadbolt, tighten screws. Make sure to check the deadbolt to guarantee it is working properly.
- Replace the latch in the lower hole on the jamb side of the door, the curved side of latch has to face the jamb to allow correct operation. You’ll leave the two screws holding the latch, out of the door for now.
- Slide the exterior half of the doorknob through the lower hole on the exterior side of the door. Place the interior collar inside and finally insert the two screws holding the two halves together
- Check the lockset for operation, and finally you’re done!
